Fodni Rice


  • 3 to 4 tbsp basmati brown rice
  • 2 tsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 green chili chopped finely
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • ½ cup red onion finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder


  1. Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat. Once hot add mustard seeds, Then add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Then add green chili and curry leaves, let it cook for a minute.
  3. Then mix in onions and salt, cook till onion becomes soft
  4. Mix in turmeric and red chili powder.
  5. Add cooked rice and mix well
  6. Let the rice get heated through, turn off the stove.
  7. Add sugar if using, serve hot and garnish with coriander leaves.
